Sara Whitten - MMT, LPMT, MT-BC; Licensed and Board Certified Music Therapist, Macon,Georgia; Middle Georgia

Sara is a Macon native of 30 years. She and her husband have known each other since their youth. Married, with one child, she and her husband have both found their life's callings to be in the field of special needs and caring for others who need caring for. Music is a core foundation of who Sara is and how she came to be a music therapist. The North Georgia mountains are her happy place!

Education and Work

  • Georgia Board Certified and Licensed Music Therapist

  • Masters Degree in Music Therapy from Georgia College and State University

  • Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from Wesleyan College

  • Former Music Therapist and Performing Arts Coordinator at The Life Enrichment Center in Milledgeville, Ga.

  • Former High School Music Director in Bibb County Public School District

 

Field Experience:

  • Early childhood intervention - Physical, social, emotional and cognitive development in an early learning facility.

  • Childhood development - Academic and social development within a school setting.

  • Adolescents with blindness - Spatial awareness, social skills, and development of independence.

  • Adults with disabilities - 18+ years of age. social skill in the community and development of independence (physical, emotional, cognitive, etc.).

  • Skilled nursing facility - Memory recall, socialization, enhancement of self-esteem and importance, relaxation and pain management.

  • Hospice Care - Increase social experiences, comfort and relaxation, and family bereavement healing.
